Feed Storage Guidelines

Recommended Guidelines for Storing Your Feed

To get the best results from Leland Mills feed and to maintain product freshness, we recommend the following storage practices. These guidelines are designed to help you protect your feed from spoilage, moisture, pests, and sun damage.

DO
  • Store feed at least 4 inches off the ground

Use a pallet, shelving, or another clean surface to lift bags off concrete, pavement, dirt, or other ground surfaces.

  • Keep feed in a dry, well-ventilated area

Moisture is the #1 cause of feed spoilage. Choose a location that stays dry and allows air to circulate freely around the feed.

  • Protect feed from direct sunlight

Store feed in shaded areas, away from windows or open exposure to sun. Prolonged sunlight can degrade feed quality.

  • Use within 90 days

Our feed is milled fresh, and we recommend using it within 90 days of delivery to ensure maximum nutritional value.

AVOID
  • Storing bags directly on the ground

Ground contact (even on concrete) increases the risk of condensation, pest access, and mold growth.

  • Storing in areas prone to flooding or water runoff

Avoid basements, sheds, or outdoor areas that collect water or are exposed to groundwater.

  • Using sealed, non-breathable containers

Trapped moisture inside airtight containers can cause mold to grow, even in dry climates.

  • Over-purchasing beyond a 90-day supply

We recommend purchasing only what you can use within 3 months to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
