Peppy-Grit: Essential Grit for Healthy Chickens - 25LB Bag

Size : Layer Grit - Size #3

Aids Digestion & Nutrient Absorption

Since chickens have no teeth, their gizzards use large, insoluble grit to grind feed and slow down digestion, resulting in much better use of feed.

Peppy Grit works like nature’s chicken teeth. It’s rough enough to quickly grind any feed and large enough to remain trapped in the gizzard. Most grit at feed stores is way too small for layers. Layers need grit that’s around 5mm in size. Like any muscle, chicken gizzards need exercise and development. Grit-fed gizzards are 50-100% larger and stronger than those deprived grit.

Feeding Guidelines
  • Provide Peppy-Grit in a separate feeder from regular feed to ensure your chickens have access as needed.
  • Chickens instinctively regulate their intake and will not overconsume.
  • On average, they will consume 2–4 lbs per year, meaning a little goes a long way. An average hen will consume about 5 pounds per year. A 25# bag should be enough for a flock of 5 for about a year..
  • Keep Peppy-Grit available at all times to support healthy digestion and nutrient absorption.

Better Poop

I started giving this to my chickens and have noticed they have much healthier poop. Instead of it being runny and slimy, it's now like an actual little pile of poop. I recommend this product for your flock too!!

Less Mess

We've been using this product with the calcium Peppy Shell for months now and have seen our chicken's poops become more solid, so we don't have to worry about getting our boots covered in diarrhea like we did before when we gather their eggs. We also have gone through less feed since putting them on it! Love Peppy Hen highly reccomend!

Peppy Hen grit success

I was unaware of my laying hens need for grit. I noticed them eating rocks from time to time while free range feeding on my property. I did some google research on why they were eating rocks and found out that my chickens need it for healthy digestion. I decided to try out the grit that peppy hen offers and my chickens really took to it. After about two weeks my chickens where consuming less food then before and there poop was more robust and not so runny. Over all I would highly recommend that every chicken owner look into this product and the need their chickens have for it!!!
