Adequate calcium is a requirement for actively laying hens. While our poultry feeds have added calcium, keeping a separate, free-choice source of calcium available for laying hens is a cheap, effective way to make sure that your egg shells stay consistently well-developed.
Our calcium supplement comes in two options, a finely ground or coarsely ground texture.
For hens that range freely, or whose feed is primarily finely ground, we recommend the finely ground calcite, which is slightly more absorbable to the hens.
For hens who are confined without access to gravel in their environment, and whose feed is primarily made of whole grains or chunky textures, we recommend using the coarsely ground calcite. This options will not only supply calcium to their diet, but will also act as a grit for their gizzard, which is a key part of healthy digestion for chickens.
